CLIENT COMMENTS - TESTING CENTRE

Lindsey's Story (32 years old) (name changed)
I am HIV Positive, I have been for the past three years. In August of last year I moved to Cape Town. I tested HIV positive in Johannesburg 3 years ago, after being raped and have been living each day as it comes. I have three children, and the oldest, is living with me, other two younger daughters are living with my mom in Johannesburg. I was very lonely when I first came to Cape Town, and had no choice but to accept my status and is try to live a positive life.
Then I saw the Aids Resource Centre sign saying they offer support. I was so happy that I was going to meet people who would know how I felt. I rang the bell and out came this lady who made me feel welcome and after we chatted I started to relax. She offered me fruit and asked if I wanted to be put in contact with a person who was also HIV positive, and who would be my “buddy” who would be there 24 hours a day, and would walk this road with me. I also knew that whenever I needed help, or just felt that I had to talk I could go to the Aids Resource Centre.
Three months back I got very sick and lost a lot of weight, I thought I was dying. The counsellor at the Aids Resource Centre suggested I go to Nazareth House where they would help me with everything. I have never seen so much love. With the love of my church cell group and all at the Aids Resource Centre, I know that the Lord has sent me my own special angels to look after me.
Our world would be a better place if all people would just do a little bit to help each other.
