FREE HIV TESTING, COUNSELLING AND SUPPORT CENTRE

July 2004 saw the launch of the ARC HIV Counselling, Testing and Support Centre in Sea Point and is now one of the busiest satellite testing centres in the Cape metro.

IKNOW - ON SITE HIV TESTING

September 2005 saw the launch of the I KNOW campaign and by end 2006 we had tested 10 000 including college students and school-goers on campuses and school grounds.

HIV/AIDS WALL MAPS

ARC is the producer of ASK, the Aids Survival Kit wall map for the Cape and Durban Metropoles, printed in full colour, showing who is doing what in HIV and where these organisations are located.

The First Edition of the Cape map was printed and distributed in December 2003 and the Second Edition was printed and distributed in May 2005. The Durban map was launched in 2006.

The information can presently be seen around the cities in businesses as well as at government offices, schools, clinics, disability offices and other provincial and local departments (distributed by Dept of Health). It is also displayed in foyers, canteens, toilets and anywhere where there is ‘public’ traffic. It has proven a valuable tool for everyone!

With funding ARC will roll out this map to other areas of South Africa.

MAPPING WEBSITE

May 2005 saw the launch of the www.askaidsmap.org.za website which is comprehensive database list of all HIV support services in the Cape Metro with maps attached. The information is specifically aimed at the man in the street needing to find support services he/she requires including where to get tested. Website searches are by way of AREA you live in or SUPPORT you require. This site was developed by Henk Blom of Zeplins in conjunction with ARC.

CHANNEL FUNDS TO GRASSROOTS PROJECTS

Through their networks ARC has identified certain HIV grassroots projects in dire need. Past involvement has been supporting families living in the Bush in Mitchells Plain, in the Graveyard in Maitland and children's parties. In 2006 ARC became involved in the Masikhulisane Creche in Mitchells Plain chanelling funds and meeting needs. Currently we are primarily involved in the Samora Machel and Kosovo communities of Philippi, resourcing and equipping the unregistered creches in an effort towards registration and upliftment of the children in the creches.
